Rangers defender Calvin Bassey opens up on future plans

Rangers hero Calvin Bassey has suggested he is only “focussed” on performing well for the Ibrox club at the moment.

According to journalist, Lahcen Senhaji, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund are looking to sign Bassey in the summer transfer window.

The youngster has been outstanding throughout the campaign and especially in the Europa League, and there is an obvious interest in him from clubs in Europe.

“I just want to keep my head down and keep pushing hard,” Bassey said as quoted by the Scotsman.

“I’m focused here. I’m here and I’m ready to get ready to come here for pre-season and be fitter than I was last pre-season and ready to see what next season holds for me and the boys.”

Huge positive

Bassey has been outstanding this season for the Gers, and his progress has been nothing short of remarkable.

He has become a cult-hero at the club, and his performance in the Europa League final was top-notch.

At 22, the Nigerian is just getting started. He can be a world-class defender in the future, and Rangers are in no rush to sell him.

The summer transfer window is going to be massive for the club. Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be looking to stamp his own authority on the side, by bringing in players of his choice.

But losing Bassey is not an option for him. With Connor Goldson set to leave, Bassey could be the player to take centre-stage for the Glasgow giants.

He is likely to take the leading role at the club, especially with Leon Balogun also facing an uncertain future.

It would be catastrophe to lose two quality defenders at the same time.

However, there is also the financial side of things. If Rangers can get anything close or more than what they got for Nathan Patterson, they could be tempted to do a business, but that’s a long shot.

In other Rangers news, the german media has reacted to the Europa League final scenes, branding them a “scandal”.
