BBC pundit Alan Hutton gushes over ‘Sensational’ James Tavernier in Rangers v Hearts
Alan Hutton was floored by James Tavernier’s set-piece in delivery in the Rangers cup win over Hearts on Saturday evening [May 21].
While Gers won the game 2-0, this piece of play came when the score was deadlocked in regulation time.
Having not taken the free kicks in the first half, the Rangers captain was back to his customary role and put in a peach of a ball which ideally should’ve found the back of the net.

Speaking to the BBC, Hutton said, “That is a sensational delivery into a really difficult area to defend. You wonder why that’s Tavernier just taking corners now as he wasn’t on free-kick set pieces in the first half.”
Outstanding performance
Tavernier was exceptional against Hearts and deserved to get his hands on a trophy this season.
The club were massively unlucky in the Europa League after everything they put into their European campaign.
The Rangers captain put in a solid performance and surely set an example for his teammates from the first minute.
Even before kick off, he would’ve said a few words of motivation inside the dressing room as heads would undoubtedly have dropped after the final defeat.
This side did not play like one that was suffering from a European hangover and we’re delighted to see the fight that they have shown.
We cannot wait to see how this squad is built in the summer ahead of next season when Gers are certainly going to fight tooth and nail for the title.
In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
