Ally McCoist urges ‘excellent’ Steven Davis to stay at Rangers another year
Ally McCoist has been left wowed by senior Rangers ace Steven Davis after his “excellent” display in the Scottish Cup final against Hearts on Saturday [May 21].
The Light Blues saw off the Jambos in the first half of extra-time with goals from Ryan Jack and Scott Wright winning the game 2-0.
With his contract expiring at the end of the month, McCoist has urged the veteran to stay, insisting that the 37-year-old still has more to give.

“I would keep him for another year, for sure,” McCoist explained to Premier Sports via Glasgow Evening Times.
“It’s not about age, it’s about whether you can make a contribution, and he certainly can.
“His fitness levels look great and he is still an excellent footballer.”
Caution.
Rangers have to be very careful with this one. There are so many reasons for them to keep hold of Davis.
He is an Ibrox veteran and the experience he has can be used in and amongst the squad to great effect.

Saturday’s display served as proof that he is still more than capable of playing a part in this Gers team.
With Allan McGregor’s future also uncertain at the club – the Bears risk losing the two most experienced players in the squad and that could be a problem next season.
The impact the senior players have on this squad is huge and losing them both at once could throw it off balance next season.
With that being said, he has hardly played this season and the space he takes up in the squad and on the wage bill could be used elsewhere.
It is imperative that the Bears keep up with the times and maintain a young, fresh squad that can compete on all fronts because that is what has let them down at times this season. A huge decision awaits.
In other Rangers news, the German media has reacted to the Europa League final scenes, branding it a “scandal”.
