Giovanni van Bronckhorst provides Connor Goldson update ahead of potential last Rangers match
Rangers manager Gio van Bronckhorst has admitted that their star defender Connor Goldson is unlikely to extend his contract with the club.
The 29-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Former Barcelona and Arsenal left-back van Bronckhorst was quoted in a report by Rangers Review where he admitted that the star defender is likely to leave as a free agent after the final of the Scottish Cup.

“Regarding Connor, the club has been in talks with him to extend his contract and so far he hasn’t extended it,” said the 47-year-old.
“The chance that he will still be a Rangers player after tomorrow will be small. I’d love to have Connor on the team next year but as you see quite a lot when players get out of contract there are two possibilities.
“That is to keep playing for Rangers or to move on to another challenge but I still have in my mind he will still be part of Rangers next year. We’ll have to watch in the coming weeks.
“I think Connor has been amazing for this team. If it will be his last game tomorrow? I don’t know right now.”
What’s next for Goldson?
Goldson has been a key player for the Light Blues, both in domestic competitions as well as in their historic run in the Europa League where they finished as a runners up after suffering defeat to German club Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Wolverhampton-born centre-back’s time at Ibrox is coming to an end and with no movement or updates regarding a new deal, it seems highly likely that the Gers will lose their star player for free in the summer.

Therefore, in all likelihood, he will represent his current club for the one last time in the final of the Scottish Cup against Hearts on Saturday (21 May).
It’s understood that Goldson has been attracting interest from several clubs, including some from England.
The veteran centre-back joined Rangers in the summer of 2018 from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £3.06 million.
Since then, Goldson has represented his current club in 222 matches in all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists.
In other Rangers news, Graham Spiers sent out a strong message on the travelling fans’ behaviour the day after the final.
