Chris Sutton sends sarcastic Rangers achievement message ahead of Hearts cup final

Chris Sutton was at it again Saturday morning (21 May) as he directed his latest sarcastic Tweet at Rangers ahead of the Scottish Cup final.

The Gers face Hearts at Hampden Park just three days after defeat in the Europa League final on penalties in Seville.

A rollercoaster season could end without anything concrete to show for it with defeat, and after the Eintracht Frankfurt loss even a victory may be an anticlimax.

But Sutton took the opposite approach, although in the message drenched in sarcasm, as he posted on his Twitter account ahead of the game: “Good luck to both teams in the Scottish Cup Final today.

“If Rangers win it will surpass Celtic’s 1967 team as the greatest achievement ever in the world…”

The Hoops of course became the first British club to lift the European Cup that year.

Like clockwork

If a big occasion that involves the Light Blues goes by and Sutton doesn’t take the opportunity to get a little dig in then has it even happened?

The ex-Bhoys striker is currently feeling pretty chipper since his former side reclaimed the league title, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men were denied at the last in Europe.

True to form the pundit responded to the midweek result with some messages designed to wind up the Gers faithful, and hapless BT Sport colleague Robbie Savage.

It’s all part of the Old Firm rivalry and in truth, if he stopped it wouldn’t be as much fun.

But fans will be desperate to claim a first domestic cup in over a decade, not only to cap this season with some silverware and end a dreadful recent record in the competition, but to avoid further mocking from the other half of Glasgow.

If van Bronckhorst can lift his players from the disappointment of the shoot-out in Spain they surely have enough to overcome the Jambos, but in a one off game and coming off a crushing defeat they will have to be on their guard.

In other Rangers news, one man is set for redemption at Hampden in the predicted XI for the final.
