Kris Boyd has admitted Aaron Ramsey’s ‘disappointing’ Rangers loan spell hasn’t worked out

Kris Boyd has admitted that Aaron Ramsey’s Rangers loan spell has been “disappointing” after the 31-year-old missed a decisive penalty in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ramsey joined Rangers in January on loan from Juventus but has struggled with injuries having only started nine matches in all competitions.

The Welshman’s miserable loan spell was compounded by his tame penalty being saved by Kevin Trapp and Boyd has admitted his time at Ibrox hasn’t worked out.

Talking to Sky Sports, Boyd said: “It’s disappointing for Aaron Ramsey.

“He’s a talented footballer but it’s just not happened for him at Rangers you have got to say.

“Ramsey is a fantastic footballer, but there are better footballers in the world over the years that have missed a penalty.”

Where does Ramsey go next?

Since leaving Arsenal, Ramsey’s career has stuttered badly and in hindsight leaving the Emirates was a bad move for the Welshmen.

A move to Juventus was always going to be hit or miss but moving to Rangers seemed like a good fit for the midfielder.

A talented British player in a Rangers kit is usually a match made in heaven, however, it hasn’t worked.

Injuries haven’t helped Ramsey, but he is at a stage of his career where he needs to settle at one club.

Moving across Europe to a different club screams ‘journeyman’ and Aaron Ramsey has far too much talent to be classed as that.

It is unlikely that the midfielder will return to Ibrox, which is a shame cause he could’ve been a success.

His Juventus contract runs until the summer of 2023 and it is unlikely that he will be amongst Juve’s future plans.

So what next for Ramsey?

A move back to the Premier League could be an option or drop into the EFL for one last promotion campaign.

The Welshmen would be an excellent signing for any EFL club.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
