Jason Cundy gushes over 'sensational' Rangers ace Calvin Bassey after what he did v Eintracht Frankfurt

Jason Cundy has run out of superlatives for Rangers defender Calvin Bassey after his “superb” performance against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final.

The Light Blues suffered defeat in Seville via penalties after the game ended 1-1 following 120 minutes of cagey football.

A miss from on-loan Juventus man Aaron Ramsey saw the Bundesliga outfit win the shoutout 5-4 in front of the Light Blues supporters.

Despite not lifting the trophy, the talkSPORT pundit gushed over the Gers left-back, tipping him for big things in the future.

Cundy told talkSPORT: “Can we talk about Calvin Bassey for a moment because he caught our eye.

“He looked sensational tonight, absolutely sensational. I thought he was the best player on the pitch – he was immense.”

He added: “He is destined for big things this kid he was absolutely superb tonight.”

Silver lining.

You have to take as many positives as possible from Rangers’ European journey no matter how hard that is.

These players have blessed the supporters with a brilliant season – travelling all over Europe whilst making memories they will never forget.

To reach the final of a European tournament takes some metal and even after losing the final – the players can hold their heads up high.

Of course, It’s a shame they didn’t take that crucial last step and lift the trophy but nobody expected them to be where they found themselves on Wednesday night which makes it a little bit easier to handle.

These players – especially the youngsters like Bassey – would have learnt so much throughout this campaign. Things that you just can’t teach in football without the experience.

Hopefully, this success is built on and there are a lot more European escapades like this to come.

For now, though, the Bears need to go and win the Scottish Cup so they don’t finish the season trophyless.
