Ally McCoist floored by ‘frightening’ Rangers duo v Eintracht Frankfurt
Ally McCoist has been wowed by Rangers duo Allan McGregor and Calvin Bassey after their Europa League final performances.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side suffered a 5-4 defeat on penalties with the game finishing 1-1 after extra time.
The 22-year-old left-back has picked up a lot of plaudits for his display in Seville. Despite the Bears’ goalkeeper failing to save a penalty, McCoist sympathised with the ‘brilliant’ veteran.

He told talkSPORT: “I thought they started better than us and to be honest with you, I thought we finished better than them. I thought as extra time went on, we were stronger.
“And obviously with the big chance with a couple of minutes to go, that was the one where Roofe came on, cut it across and Kent, if anything, meets it too well and the keeper makes a great save.”
McCoist added: “I don’t think I’ve seen in any penalty competition, five better penalties.
“Believe it or not, you fancy [Rangers goalkeeper, Allan] McGregor at penalties, he’s a brilliant goalkeeper but you’ve got no chance; unsavable. They flew into the top corner and bottom corner.”
Speaking on Bears defender, Bassey, he added: “What about that performance, he was absolutely frightening, he’s walking in anywhere on that performance.”

Tough luck.
Bassey really did play the game of his life in the final, didn’t he? Rangers fans are used to seeing him boast those levels on a regular basis but to kick it up a gear, especially in a high-pressured final is very impressive.
The Nigerian’s display was that good you hope that nobody is watching with keen interest after it.
It just wasn’t meant to be for the Light Blues in the shoutout. They would have really fancied their chances with the man-mountain that is McGregor in between the sticks but as McCoist said, Frankfurt’s penalties were exceptional.
The 40-year-old came close to a couple of them but the Germans took some really good penalties worthy of winning the shoutout.
Penalties are undoubtedly the worst way to lose but the team has done themselves proud.
This season’s European journey will go down in history it is just a shame they weren’t able to bring the trophy back to Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Kris Boyd says that one Rangers star will have big regrets after the “cruel” defeat in Seville.
