Simon Jordan: Rangers set for £30m disadvantage over Celtic next season

Simon Jordan claims that Rangers will have £30million less than Celtic for the 2022/23 SPFL campaign.

That’s because the Hoops will qualify for the Champions League group stages as they won the league this season.

Gers’ failure to win does not guarantee them a spot and they will have to go through the qualifiers in order to make it there.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan said, “It’s massive. They knew about it at the start of the season and they have not taken advantage. Celtic will now have a £30m advantage over them and will be able to strengthen their squad further.”

Huge disadvantage

Gers have played such a huge part in increasing the coefficient of the Scottish league and Celtic are the benefactors of it.

Last season, when Steven Gerrard’s side won the league, they had to go through the qualifiers for the Champions League, something that Celtic do not have to.

Add to that, they’ll be getting that extra Champions League money which they can use to strengthen their squad even further.

Despite winning the league, many would argue that both the Glasgow sides had roughly the same squads in terms of quality.

However, next season the players Celtic will attract is going to be significantly better than what Gers would.

This should not deter their quest for securing a spot in the group stages via the play-offs but by the time that happens, it could be too late in the transfer window.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
