Rangers prediction from Ally McCoist provokes Chris Sutton Twitter reaction

Chris Sutton loves nothing more than to try and rile up Rangers fans and he’s done so again after the Gers’ Europa League final defeat.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side lost on penalties in Seville after Joe Aribo’s second-half goal was cancelled out by Rafael Borre’s front post finish and it was the Colombian who scored the winning spot-kick.

Before the final, Ibrox icon Ally McCoist had made a tongue in cheek comment suggesting that the Light Blues had the victory in the bag as he looked towards next season’s UEFA Supercup (where the Champions League and Europa League winners face off).

It was no surprise to see Sutton, a former Celtic player, drag this old video up the day after the heartbreaking defeat and dig the dagger even further into McCoist and Rangers fans.

“Sometimes it’s important one doesn’t get too far ahead of oneself,” Sutton said via his personal Twitter account.

Go again

They might have missed the chance to automatically qualify for the Champions League group stages and they will be back in the Europa League next season but they still achieved a great amount without lifting the trophy.

The result hurts now but the Gers have the chance to dust themselves off and go again this weekend as they head to Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup final.

Hearts are the opponents who await van Bronckhorst’s mentally battered and bruised squad for the final game of the season and they should be very confident of victory having beaten the Jam Tarts in their own backyard at Tynecastle in the last game of the league season with a heavily rotated side.

As much as Seville will linger in the minds of the players and the fans alike, they can’t afford to dwell on it until after Saturday 21 May’s final and they have no games to play for a couple of months.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit slammed the “complete mess” that was the Light Blues’ defence in Seville after an incident that left fans “gasping” in the stands.
