Michael Stewart stunned by Calvin Bassey despite Rangers loss in Europa League v Eintracht Frankfurt
Michael Stewart was left stunned by Rangers defender Calvin Bassey in the Europa League final defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening [18 May].
The Nigerian defender was labelled as “Unbelievable” for his efforts in Seville, as the Bears were left crushed after losing by penalties to the Germans.
Stewart insisted that Rangers must do everything to keep hold of Bassey, and if players have to be sold across the summer, he must not be one of them.

Writing on his personal Twitter account late on Wednesday night after the full-time whistle [18 May], Stewart could not hold back enough praise for the defender.
“Calvin Bassey is absolutely unbelievable,” he wrote.
“Can’t quite believe how good he has been the second half of the season. They must do everything to keep a hold of him. If players must be sold then they can’t let him be one of them. Tremendous player.”
Unbelievable.
After arriving at Auchenhowie as an unknown, Bassey has transformed over the years.
The move from playing left-back into an out and out central enforcer has sent his career trajectory soaring upwards, and he is only going to get better and better.
Even with the equaliser conceded last night, Bassey may have looked slow, but that ball was there to be cleared by Connor Goldson, who inexplicably left it in his own box.
This is one of the first times we have actually seen Stewart speaking sense on his social media channels, and he is right, the Bears must do everything to keep hold of Bassey.
The Nigerian has it all, pace, power and positioning – three things that are hard to find in one central defender, but he is one of the lucky ones.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst will likely need a new leader with Goldson set to leave after Saturday’s cup final against Hearts, could that man be Bassey? We hope so.
