Kevin Thomson destroys Chris Sutton after Rangers penalty dig after Europa League loss

Kevin Thomson has destroyed Chris Sutton for a “lack of class” after he fired shots at Rangers after their Europa League final defeat.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side lost 5-4 on penalties with Aaron Ramsey missing the decisive spot-kick after the score finished 1-1 after 120 minutes in Seville.

Sutton poked fun at the Light Blues’ loss, eluding to the number of penalties they have been awarded this season.

He tweeted: “Great effort in the Europa League from Rangers and the players have given their all. With the amount of penalties they’ve been awarded this season I fancied them in the shootout mind. Well done to Frankfurt though”

To which Thomson replied: “Lack of class that as an ex-player. Doesn’t surprise me tho. To see fellow pros regardless of rivalry get beat like that, it’s a cruel game at best of times.”

Devastating.

It was so close, yet so far away for Rangers on Wednesday [May 18] night. To lose in the manner in which they did is crushing, especially with the Gers having enough chances to win the game in the 120 minutes played.

Ryan Kent will have a very difficult time getting over his glaring miss in the dying seconds of the game but what an excellent save it was from Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp – that won them the game.

Of course, Ramsey will hold himself accountable for the loss but it could have been anyone.

The Bears supporters are nothing but proud of these players and as nice as it would have been to win – what a journey they have been on.

They went toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in Europe this season and came out on top – only losing to a team who haven’t been beaten all season in the tournament – and that is something you have to respect.

In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist and Kenny Miller have reacted to a major blunder in Rangers’ loss v Frankfurt, branding one man a “fall guy”.
