Ally McCoist & Kenny Miller sympathise with Rangers ‘fall guy’ Aaron Ramsey

Ally McCoist and Kenny Miller have sympathised with Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey after his missed penalty lost the Gers the Europa League final.

The Wales international was subbed on with just minutes to play in the second half of extra time with penalties looming.

Any one of the Light Blues’ players could have missed a penalty but the BT duo branded Ramsey as the “fall guy”.

McCoist said on BT Sport [May 18, 23:00]: “There was always going to be a fall guy, I think he tries to lift it and he does not get enough on it.”

Miller then added: “You need to get a bit of height when you are going down the middle, if he does get it down there it is a goal but he pulls it ever so slightly and the keeper gets to it because he hasn’t quite got the height.

“There is always going to be someone who misses. He will be devastated. Anyone would be.

“He will be gutted for everyone, he wanted success at Rangers and tonight was a huge opportunity.”

Devastating.

Even now Rangers fans haven’t quite come to terms with the loss and it will take them a little while longer to get over it.

Losing on penalties is so, so cruel especially given the fact that the Bears probably did enough to win the game.

Make no mistake, it was a very evenly contested final but the better chances fell the Scots way unfortunately, they failed to capitalise.

Ryan Kent will be gutted with the glaring chance that he missed in the dying minutes of extra-time but what a save it was by Kevin Trapp.

Of course, all of the focus will be on Ramsey but penalties are a complete lottery and it is just a shame that he was the one to miss – at least he had the courage to step up.

It is a huge chance missed for the Light Blues but they can be proud of the amazing European journey they went on this season nonetheless.
