Rangers starlet Christopher McKee confirms Ibrox exit

Christopher McKee has confirmed that he is leaving Rangers after four years at the club to return to his home country, Northern Ireland.

The 20-year-old has been on loan at Linfield in the Danske Bank Premiership since January where he has scored five goals in ten games in Northern Ireland’s top division.

He originally signed for the Light Blues from Linfield back in 2018 but four years at the club, with one loan spell at Brechin City, saw him never make a senior appearance and he is now leaving the club for good.

The striker, who did play in the UEFA Youth League for Rangers earlier this season, took to Twitter to say his goodbyes to the club and those who have helped him during his time in Glasgow.

“Just want to say a big thank you to Rangers for the last 4 years, the amazing experiences and friends gained,” McKee said.

“Just want to thank the staff within the club for everything they’ve done for me over the last few years. It’s been an absolute pleasure but now onto the next chapter.”

That’s football

We might only see the success stories of young footballers who manage to make it to the big time but there are far more stories such as this one where the big move has failed.

McKee’s career isn’t over though and should he sign for Linfield permanently, he should be able to go on and have a brilliantly successful career in Northern Ireland.

He already has Under-19 caps with two goals in three games for his country and if he can manage to keep on scoring at that rate, he might even find himself playing for Ian Baraclough’s senior side sooner or later.

Rangers can’t afford to be sympathetic in these situations and the cut-throat nature of football has truck once more on McKee.

He’s not a terrible player by any stretch of the imagination but to be someone capable of making their mark for Rangers, you need to be exceptionally good and the 20-year-old just wasn’t quite there and that is all it takes to end the dream for him.
