Rangers injury boost as Kemar Roofe spotted on plane to Seville

Rangers could have striker Kemar Roofe back for the Europa League final after he was spotted boarding the plane to Seville, as reported by the Daily Record.

The Jamaican international has been out of action since the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Celtic at Hampden Park on 17 April and has subsequently missed both semi-final legs against RB Leipzig.

But the 29-year-old has been working hard to get back fit and that has seen him give himself a chance of playing the final at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Wednesday (18 May).

Kemar Roofe will be one of plenty to depart Ibrox this summer

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been forced to play wingers and midfielders out of position as strikers in Roofe’s absence with top scorer Alfredo Morelos also out for the rest of the season.

It has worked a treat so far in the run to the final but the Jamaican might have to pass a late fitness test to ensure he can play the final and even then. van Bronckhorst might not risk him from the start.

When it comes to the biggest games, you need a striker who can finish that one chance they might get and that is exactly what van Bronckhorst will be hoping for from Roofe on Wednesday.

He really stepped his game up when Morelos was put out of action and scored some crucial goals for the Light Blues and it has been noticeable in every performance how much the Gers miss having that focal point at the top of the pitch.

But it still hasn’t deterred them as they went on to beat RB Leipzig in the semi-final and now they take on another German side, Eintracht Frankfurt, in a bid for glory.

Despite his return to the squad, Roofe should not start in Seville on Wednesday given his lack of football in the last month but if he can play a part, he would be an exceptional player to bring off the bench and add a different dynamic should the game require it.
