BBC man gushes over Rangers debutant Cole McKinnon after what he did v Hearts
Cole McKinnon had a dream debut for Rangers as he found the back of the net in the 3-1 victory over Hearts on Saturday (May 14).
The central midfielder came off the bench to lethal effect for the visitors and he was even handed the BBC Man of the Match for his second half cameo.
It took him less than half an hour to score a goal in his first ever game for the senior side and he surely would have delighted the travelling support as well as Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Covering the game on BBC’s live blog (14/05, 13:54), Andy Campbell wrote, “It’s a dream debut for Cole McKinnon.
“The 19-year-old came off the bench on the hour mark, and after 20 minutes on the park picks his spot from the edge of the box with an excellent finish.”
Unfortunately, Rangers had nothing left to play for on the final day of the season.
Celtic wrapped up the title this month and today was their day to be serenaded.
Most Gers fans may be forgiven for forgetting that there was a game today, given the fact that they’re set to play in a European final later this week.
This was the perfect game for van Bronckhorst to give some of the youngsters a chance after their impressive season with the youth team.
McKinnon undoubtedly was one of those players and it would’ve been a justified decision if the Dutchman had even opted to start the 19-year-old.
Hopefully, we see more of him in pre season next month as he’s clearly got the potential to be a first team player in no time.
