Giovanni van Bronckhorst: Celtic deserve credit for beating Rangers to title

Giovanni van Bronckhorst believes that Rangers do not need to win the Europa League to overshadow Celtic’s achievement.

The Dutchman congratulated Celtic on their recent achievement after they sealed the SPFL title on Wednesday night [May 11].

However, he wants to win the European honour and beat Eintracht Frankfurt as it would be just the second one in the club’s history.

Speaking live on talkSPORT, the Gers boss said, “There’s always pressure no matter which team you’re at. The pressure is always there at Rangers to buckle up.

“Losing the championship this year, we have to give credit to Celtic. They are deserved champions.

“Being successful in Europe is massive for all of us. The second time in history will show how big an achievement it will be.

“We don’t need to win to overshadow their achievement.”

The Dutchman knows how much everyone will be hurting to see Celtic win the league again.

Having won it last season under Gerrard, Gers fans had bragging rights for the first time in Glasgow.

Now, the pendulum of power has shifted back to the green side of the city but that can change very soon.

A European honour for Rangers would suddenly back this a better season for them than Celtic.

They also have another cup final to look forward and the thoughts of a double will certainly delight Gers fans all over the world.

Given the season they’ve had, to end it with two trophies will be phenomenal and van Bronckhorst deserves credit for doing that.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
