Rangers defender Connor Goldson leads chart in ball recoveries in Europa League
Rangers will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the final of the Europa League on May 18 in Sevilla.
There have been some outstanding performers for the Gers in this competition this season, but one player who stood out from the rest is Connor Goldson.
UEFA Europa League has shared a stat on Twitter that shows Goldson has made the most ball recoveries of all players in this competition.
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has made 62 ball recoveries, while Goldson is ahead of the rest with 92 ball recoveries.
Goldson has been simply terrific for the Gers this season.
While the Bears have been outstanding at Ibrox, it’s important to note they haven’t conceded enough goals, especially in the later stages of the competition.
They produced a solid defensive performance in the 1-0 defeat against RB Leipzig away from home, and managed a similar scoreline against Braga in Portugal as well.
Another reason why his stats look better is due to the fact Rangers played a well of games, compared to West Ham. They had to qualify to the knock-out stage via a play-off.
Sadly, this could be the final season for Goldson at Ibrox.
He has a contract at the club until the end of the season, and there will be a big void when he leaves.
The 29-year-old has been a cult-hero at the club, and he would love to end his spell with one or two trophies as well this season.
Rangers have already signed John Souttar who will join in the summer on a free transfer. The likes of Calvin Bassey , Nikola Katic and Leon King will be asked to fill his void once he leaves.
