Andy Little gushes over 'highlight of the season' Rangers defender after a breakthrough season
Former Rangers forward Andy Little was full of praise for “highlight of the season” Calvin Bassey after a breakthrough season for the 22-year-old defender.
Bassey has enjoyed a stellar campaign after being an everpresent in their League and Europa League campaign as well as making two appearances for Nigeria.
Talking on commentary on RangersTV [19:50, May 11] during the first half of Rangers’ Scottish Premiership fixture against Ross County, Little said: “He’s [Bassey] been the highlight of the season and thoroughly deserving of young player of the season.
“His season doesn’t surprise me, we watched a pre-season game against Partick Thistle and he lit the game up then.”
Rangers’ tussle with Ross County was certainly not at the forefront of the fans, players and management minds with their enormous night in Sevilla a week away.
Nevertheless, van Bronkhorst paid respect to the fixture by playing a strong side in the Scottish Premiership fixture.
It would’ve been easy for the Rangers boss to ring the changes with two cup finals on the horizon.
Rangers’ first-half display was extremely encouraging as the players looked energetic and keen to make an impression before their Europa League final next week.
This fixture could’ve easily seen the players go through the motions, but their first half display was positive and professional.
The away side, who are still chasing a European place, barely touched the ball in an extremely dominant first-half display for the Gers.
The first-half run out for Joe Aribo, who didn’t feature in the weekend win against Dundee United after being substituted during the victory over RB Leipzig.
Aribo was lively in the first half and could be set to lead the line in Sevilla.
