Tam McManus makes Rangers Europa League final prediction

Tam McManus says he finally believes that Rangers could win the Europa League when they face off against Frankfurt in the final next week.

Rangers made it to their first European final since 2008 by beating RB Leipzig in the semi-final stage, with McManus admitting that he didn’t have the feeling they could achieve anything in Europe for much of this season.

But after watching the team overturn a first leg deficit at Ibrox once again, the BBC pundit has admitted while appearing on the PLZ Soccer show that he now ‘can’t see past’ a Rangers win on the night if they perform to the same levels as the semi-final.

“I haven’t [got that feeling]. I haven’t all season,” he said.

“I haven’t felt like Rangers could win it, but their performance against Leipzig now leads me to believe they can, not only that they can but I think they will win it.

“I think they’ve beaten better teams in Europe and I think if they go in and put in a level of performance that they have against Leipzig and Dortmund then I think they’ll win it.”

This is arguably set up as Rangers’ biggest game in the modern era, and arguably since their last European success back in 1972.

McManus is notorious for going against Rangers regularly and fans have picked up on it, so it must have taken a lot for him to openly admit that he is predicting success in the team’s future.

The performance against Leipzig was huge, as was the win over Dortmund over two legs, but Rangers will have to find a way to match that without the roar of their fans behind them.

The stadium in Seville has a smaller capacity and will be split down the middle for fans, so that extra push will be there for both sides in what is sure to be a close game.

If they play to their level though, they are capable of beating anyone on their day and it’s about time McManus came around to that idea and accepted it because the rest of Europe has stood up and taken notice.
