Van Bronckhorst coy if Rangers will extend Amad Diallo loan stay in summer

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has remained coy when asked to clarify the future of Amad Diallo who scored for Rangers against Dundee United on Sunday (8 May).

The Gers boss made seven changes to the squad that faced RB Leipzig in the semi-final of the second leg at Ibrox.

Diallo scored the second goal as the Bears picked up a 2-0 victory. The Dutchman was pleased with the effort from the youngster.

“Today we could give a lot of players the chance to make minutes. I think Amad is a player who benefits from that. He will get minutes in the last games,” said the Dutchman, as quoted by the Daily Record (9 May, page 43).

“You could see what he brings to the team. I’m really happy with his performance today and with his behaviour overall.

“What happens next season, we haven’t discussed his future.

“Once the decision has to be made about what the squad will look like next year, we will also make a decision about who we want to bring on board.”

It has been a disappointing campaign for the youngster.

Big things were expected of the Manchester United loanee when he arrived at Ibrox in the January transfer window.

United paid a big money to secure his signature but he has not been able to show his class. The loan move hasn’t been a huge success as well.

Rather, it has been a largely frustrating spell for the 19-year-old, and doubts remain whether Van Bronckhorst will look to take him on board, either on loan again or permanently.

Diallo’s deal expires after the Scottish Cup Final on May 21, and it seems the Dutchman is undecided whether to extend his loan spell beyond the season.

The Ivory Coast international started off brightly scoring in his debut but since then he has cut a frustrating figure and lost his place in the side as a result.

That he is a talented player is known to all, but the kid really needs to work hard in training and apply himself. It will be a big surprise if Rangers extend his loan stay.
