Rangers may give Nikola Katic another chance next season with Connor Goldson set to leave

Rangers could reportedly turn to out of favour defender Nikola Katic next season as Connor Goldson appears to have his heart set on an exit.

According to Football Scotland, there was an option to recall him in January from Hajduk Split but they decided against it.

However, the club still have an option to buy worth around £3million and in case they don’t, Giovanni van Bronckhorst could give him a second chance.

Stay away

The 25-year-old has done very little on loan to prove he’s worth a first-team place next season at Ibrox.

Goldson looks like he wants to leave and the club must not stand in his way.

It makes little sense to keep unhappy players at the club and his contract is also expiring so there’s only so much Gers can do to convince him to sign a new deal.

Even if he leaves, the club have John Souttar coming through the door and will possibly look to sign another two defenders this summer.

Winning the Europa League will ensure Champions League qualification and that brings in a fair share of the windfall with it.

This could see them loosen the purse strings in the transfer market and we can surely expect some big names walking through the door.

For Katic, his time seems to be done and should not be given another chance by the Dutchman.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
