Fitness level of Rangers squad stuns Chris Sutton live on BT Sport after RB Leipzig smashed
Chris Sutton was left stunned by the fitness levels of the Rangers squad this week as they beat RB Leipzig in the Europa League.
The Bears won 3-1 on the night to reach the final of a major European competition against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sutton could not believe his eyes at the “remarkable” fitness levels of the squad after their brave performance at Ibrox.
Speaking live on BT Sports Scottish Football Extra on Friday [06 May, 18:34], Sutton singled out one thing he has seen.
“It’s remarkable the fitness levels at this stage of the season,” he said.
“The energy which they are showing, I get it last night [Thursday], the adrenaline would have been there, but when Leipzig got back into the game, you spoke about them being resilient.
“For Rangers to pick themselves up and go again, they were so brave.”
This is no surprise to us.
It looks as though Giovanni van Bronckhorst has dragged even more impeccable fitness levels out of the squad since he arrived.
In the last few months under Steven Gerrard, the Bears looked tired in games and it led to more and more negative results.
This past couple of months have been incredible though, going to extra time on numerous occasions in huge games such as Braga and Celtic, but coming through it.
It looked as though we were set for an extra half-an-hour yet again in the Leipzig game, but stepping up and getting the winner epitomises everything this squad stands for.
Sutton was left blown away because he hasn’t seen that from Celtic, who have bottled it in Europe this season, crashing out of three competitions.
These fitness levels are going to be tested again in a couple of weeks, with the Europa League final and Scottish Cup final within days of each other.
Bring it on.
