Ally McCoist 'stunned' by 'unbelievable' Rangers win over RB Leipzig

Ally McCoist has admitted he was ‘stunned’ by Rangers earning a place in the Europa League final with a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig on Thursday [May 5].

Goals from James Tavernier, Glen Kamara and John Lundstram have rocketed the light blues to Seville, after the Ibrox crowd were at their absolute best to push them over the line in a tense moment.

Speaking to the talkSPORT breakfast show [May 6, 9:07], McCoist shared that the atmosphere inside the ground was ‘ridiculous’ on the night and shared his joy at the difference of the club’s fortunes nine years apart.

“One of those unbelieveable nights that European football can produce sometimes,” he said.

“Quite literally nine years ago, Rangers were lifting the third division championship against Berwick Rangers. Then nine years on you’re in a European final in Seville against Frankfurt. I’m stunned and I’m so, so happy for absolutely everybody.

“The atmosphere last night was just ridiculous. It was off the scale.”

What a moment, what a club, what a night. Rangers are in the 2022 Europa League final. Let it sink in for a moment.

Nine years and one day prior to the game, Rangers were lifting the third division trophy and were making their way back to the big time after all the troubles of years prior.

Now, less than a decade on, the club have already reclaimed the throne in Scotland once and are now looking to go one further than ever prior by winning the Europa League.

The crowd played their part on the night and will need to again on May 18th when they face Frankfurt, but regardless of the result on that night they have all done themselves proud.

It’s a moment to really cherish, because you never know if this will happen again. All the fans are simply stunned and in awe of what has happened, and are full of belief for what could happen in two weeks time.
