Ibrox View: Rangers player ratings after huge Europa League win v RB Leipzig

Rangers pulled off a sensational 3-1 win over RB Leipzig this evening to reach the Europa League final.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst was brave and selected the exact same starting XI that lost the first leg over in Germany last week.

The Bears started the game on fire and were ahead in the tie within half an hour, and they didn’t stop when Leipzig equalised, with John Lundstram firing home the winner.

Ibrox News rated the players out of 10 below…

Allan McGregor – 6

Once again, the veteran keeper had little to do in terms of action in his own third, but he always had to be alert. He made one huge save in the second half, and there was little he could about Christopher Nkunku’s goal.

James Tavernier – 8

Wow, what a night again. The skipper is now the top scorer in the competition and he didn’t even score his first until the knockout stages. Tavernier did exactly what Angelino did to him last week, but he did it even better.

Connor Goldson – 7

Another solid night of work from the colossus at the back against some of Europe’s best forwards, he kept his cool and made fouls when he needed to. Sometimes playing smart is the best way, and not many do it better than Goldson.

Calvin Bassey – 9

What a man, Bassey is quickly becoming one of the most important and powerful players in this entire squad. Playing centrally suits his attributes incredibly, and we lost count of how many times he bullied the opposition and went on a surging run.

Borna Barisic – 6

On such a big night, he didn’t make many headlines but that is exactly what was needed. Barisic did his work and made no mistakes, something that may have been playing on his mind after another shocker at Celtic last weekend.

Ryan Jack – 7

It was a shame to see him go off with a knock and we pray that it is only minor. After starting slowly, the midfielder was everywhere and never gave the Germans a moment of peace in the heart, and his absence was felt massively after he went off.

John Lundstram – 10

Man of the Match. Another night of tireless running from the Englishman, with his physicality simple unmatched yet again by anyone on the pitch. Lundstram got the winner on a night where he finally got the rewards his performances have warranted for months now.

Glen Kamara – 8

Inspirational with his link-up play, especially in that opening 45 minutes. His role in the first goal was sublime, but his finish for the second goal was out of this world, with the calmness on show outrageous. Kamara did tire as the night went on though.

Scott Wright – 3

Another strange evening for Wright. It appears as though the winger has found his level with league football, with European nights possibly one step too far for his skill level. We hope this changes as his experience level goes up in the competition.

Ryan Kent – 7

The winger just causes panic whenever he gets the ball, and no one in Europe has come up with the answers against him yet. Kent’s run and ball across for Tavernier’s goal was the perfect start, and even if he did little else in terms of a huge impact, he panicked that right-hand side all night.

Joe Aribo – 7

The Nigerian was superb in the first half with his only negative that guilt-edged chance he would be wishing he scored. His night ended in miserable circumstances after his head injury, but it was the right decision to be taken off.

Substitutes: Fashion Sakala – 6, Scott Arfield, 5, Leon Balogun – 6
