Graham Spiers sends Rangers message ahead of huge RB Leipzig showdown

Graham Spiers has delivered a rallying message to Rangers ahead of their huge Europa League showdown with RB Leipzig.

The Bears go into the second leg at Ibrox this evening only 1-0 down after Angelino’s late volley in Germany last week.

Spiers has urged Rangers to beat the “jumped-up” Germans and called for the spirit of 1972 against Bayern Munich at the time.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, alongside a video of the famous 1972 win, Spiers sent a rallying cry.

“Right, Rangers, let’s be having you,” he wrote.

“Let’s see off this jumped-up Leipzig mob. The spirit of 19.4.72, please. (Note the heaving north enclosure, pre splintery and unpopular Centenary Stand).”

Bring it on.

Leipzig were seen as this big, bad group that we had no chance of beating ahead of the first leg last week in Germany.

Having said that though, the Bundesliga side rarely laid a glove on our defence and only had one, possibly two clear-cut chances.

When you remember that Ryan Kent also missed a clear chance, we could easily have returned to Glasgow with a win.

That wasn’t to be, but that performance certainly will have given everyone confidence that this can easily be overturned this evening.

This is the biggest night at Ibrox in decades, and if we get that early goal, it will erupt and then it is down to Leipzig to sink or swim.

Usually, European teams cannot handle it, just as Borussia Dortmund found out earlier in the competition.

Bring it on.
