Europa League semi-final: Tam McManus shares how Rangers can beat RB Leipzig

Tam McManus thinks Rangers need to get an early goal to put pressure on RB Leipzig on Thursday.

The Gers are trailing 1-0 from the first leg, and they are confident of winning it at home in front of their vociferous fans.

McManus says that if Leipzig score first, it will become almost impossible for the Gers to come back into the game.

“The first goal in this game will be absolutely massive. If Leipzig score early, I don’t see Rangers coming back from a two-goal down,” said McManus on PLZ Soccer.

“If Rangers can get that early goal, the first goal, they have every chance to win the tie. The first goal will be massive.”

Spot on

McManus is absolutely on the money here with his assessment.

This has been a dream European campaign from Rangers, and reaching the semi-final is itself a huge achievement.

They have got a big opportunity to reach the finals of this tournament.

Rangers have done incredibly well at home in Europa League this season, where they have scored against Borussia Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg and Braga.

The Gers are confident that they will be able to sneak a goal but an early goal is key. It will change the body language of the side, and will lift the entire place.

At the same time, Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have to be spot on with his tactics.

Fashion Sakala deserves a chance after his brilliant performance against Celtic, but the Dutchman could be tempted to start with Kemar Roofe if he is fit to play.

The Gers lacked a focal point in their attack in the last game, and Roofe can solve that problem.

In other Rangers news, the club are “not convinced” by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
