Barry Ferguson could not believe Fashion Sakala performance for Rangers v Celtic

Barry Ferguson could not believe his eyes at how well Fashion Sakala played centrally for Rangers against Celtic on Sunday.

The Zambian started out wide, but moved into the middle in the second half and caused all sorts of problems for their back four.

After struggling immensely against Braga last month, Sakala found the back of the net at Parkhead and gave Giovanni van Bronckhorst a real headache.

Writing in his latest column for the Daily Record, Ferguson clearly could not believe his eyes at what he had seen.

“What did surprise me, though, was how well Fashion Sakala did on Sunday when he moved into the central area for the last hour and didn’t give the Celtic defence a minute’s peace,” he wrote.

“He’d struggled against Braga in that role but was a different player on Sunday, and of course, took his goal superbly.

“He should have had a second, of course, when he hit the post but overall it was a really good performance from the Zambian – and the rest of the team for that matter.”

Thorn.

Sakala will be in the nightmares of that Celtic defence after running riot against them in recent weeks.

Despite it going down as an own-goal, he did most of the work to make sure the winner went in to get through that Scottish Cup semi-final.

Then his finish at Parkhead highlighted an efficiency we have not yet seen from him with a superb finish at the near post.

Of course, if we were being picky, he should have scored against, but Van Bronckhorst will just want that level of performance more regularly now.

Sakala had been hesitant to use his pace with runs in behind before the Old Firm, despite it clearly being a real weapon.

The forward played without the leash on over the weekend though, and that is exactly what we need to see more of moving forward.

Starting on Thursday against RB Leipzig, bring it on.
