Michael Stewart stunned by 'Wonderful' Rangers forward Fashion Sakala v Celtic on BBC Sportscene
Michael Stewart was left floored by Fashion Sakala after his goal for Rangers against Celtic on Sunday afternoon [1 May].
The BBC pundit labelled the Zambian forward as “wonderful” after his low drive put the Bears level at Parkhead.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst started Sakala on the right, and it took over an hour for him to explode into the game after early struggles.
Speaking live on BBC Sportscene last night [1 May, 12mins 30secs] Stewart was blown away by the winger and his efforts.
“That is the danger when it is only 1-0,” he said.
“Rangers inject the pace into the attack, it’s really good play, one-touch, overload the wide area.
“It’s a wonderful finish from Sakala, he gets around the outside of Kent, the overload is there, bang, first time right in the bottom corner from Sakala.”
It was a big struggle throughout the 90 minutes for Sakala, but the sign of a good player is never giving up.
On the biggest stage away to our fiercest rivals, the game seemed to pass him by for an hour, and he couldn’t hold the ball up at all.
That changed though and his speed suddenly opened the game up consistently and he got his reward with this stunning low finish.
If we were feeling harsh after that, he should have scored again, hitting the post and heading over from a corner when free in the middle.
When Stewart is even floored by your finish, you know you’re doing something right with the pundit easily finding something wrong in anything.
All eyes are now on RB Leipzig, and it is hard to know if Sakala has earned himself a start with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Kemar Roofe potentially coming back.
