McCoist rues Rangers' lack of attacking threat in Old Firm draw
Ally McCoist slammed Rangers’ lack of attacking threat in their Old Firm draw away at Celtic on Sunday.
Talking on commentary for Sky Sports Main Event in the 55th minute, McCoist was displeased with a James Tavernier delivery going unchallenged in the Celtic box.
The draw all but confirms Celtic’s title triumph and McCoist felt Rangers lacked a real game-changer in this tight encounter.
McCoist said: “He [Tavernier] looks into the penalty box and there’s nobody there.
“I look at the bench and there’s no one there, there’s no real game-changer.”
Rangers’ will be delighted with their second-half display after a hugely disappointing first-half display.
Fashion Sakala’s equaliser came during a strong end to the game for the Giovanni van Bronkhorst’s men.
Prior to that, Rangers lacked a focal point in attack with Keemar Roofe and Alfredo Morelos both absent through injury.
However, in a lively finish to the match, Rangers looked the far greater threat and were unlucky not to win it after Fashion Sakala’s strike cannoning off the post.
The Light Blues will be pleased with their efforts in what has been a tough week with a defeat in Leipzig and the second leg at Ibrox on the horizon.
They will take plenty of encouragement from their second-half display on Sunday, and Sakala will be pushing for a start against Leipzig on Thursday.
Given their injury problems, we could well see him start up front for the Gers against the German side.
Regardless of their injury issues, Rangers will fancy their chances at an what will be an electric Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, Kenny Dalglish predicted the score of this game while posing a significant dilemma for Gers.
