Kris Boyd: Rangers striker Fashion Sakala 'did everything right' in vital Old Firm moment

Kris Boyd believes Rangers striker Fashion Sakala did everything right when failing to convert a vital chance in their 1-1 Old Firm draw.

Sakala was sent clean through on goal in the 86th minute only for his low strike to rebound off the post.

Boyd felt that the Rangers man did everything right in the situation and was unlucky to not convert what would’ve been a vital winning goal.

Talking on Sky Sports post-match Boyd said: “He does everything right in that situation.

“He was very unlucky not to find the back of the net, it was similar to his first goal.”

Sakala’s day

Man of the match Sakala enjoyed an electric second-half display that saw him at the centre of all of Rangers’ good work.

Sakala was a constant threat and tested Joe Hart on numerous occasions in the second period.

However, Sakala felt he should have done better with the golden chance in the 86th minute.

Talking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: “The goal was special for me but I should’ve done better with the other chance I had.

“We were the better side and we wanted to win, we gave everything for this draw.”

Rangers’ attention will swiftly turn to one of their biggest matches in recent history when they face Leipzig in their Europa League semi-final second leg on Thursday.

Sakala’s performance in the Old Firm derby will certainly give Giovanni van Bronkhorst plenty to think about.

Rangers are lacking options up front and Sakala’s pace and finishing ability could see him deployed in a central striking role for the crucial second leg.

In other Rangers news, UEFA once again punished the club with a fine for supporter behaviour.
