Andy Walker slams Borna Barisic incident in Rangers v Celtic, Ally McCoist completely agrees

Andy Walker slammed Borna Barisic after the Rangers left-back was caught “sleeping” when Celtic opened the scoring at Parkhead on Sunday.

In the 21st minute, Jota cut in from the right-hand side to poke home his 12th goal of the season.

He took advantage of some slack defending by Barisic, who failed to follow the 23-year-old Hoops player into the danger zone.

“Barisic is sleeping – Jota’s not,” said Walker on Sky Sports Main Event [1 May, 12:21pm]. “He’s alive, he’s aware, he’s determined to get a touch and he does to get Celtic that breakthrough.

“Yet again, Barisic is caught on his heels.”

Ally McCoist agreed with Walker, saying: “Absolutely spot on, Andy.

“Once again, Barisic switches off.”

Not good enough

How many chances is Barisic going to have?

The Croatian left-back has been atrocious when he’s played away against Celtic this season.

It just shows how badly this defensive unit needs to be improved in the summer because the options across the board are not really good enough.

Out of the regular starters this season, James Tavernier and Calvin Bassey are the only ones who you can be confident will still be at Ibrox next season.

Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun will be out of contract while Barisic’s form suggests he should be considered to be on the chopping block by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Ross Wilson.

It’s going to be a big summer no matter what at Ibrox because there are too many players in this squad who, in the league, have underperformed this season.

There are also players who will be entering the last year of their contract that might need to be sold so they’re not lost on a free transfer next year.
