View: Scott Wright can stay at home for Rangers v Celtic after absolute shocker at RB Leipzig

Rangers left RB Leipzig with their heads held high on Thursday evening after losing the first leg of their Europa League semi-finals.

Angelino’s late volley handed the Germans a 1-0 aggregate lead after the Bears had kept them out with relative ease throughout.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst changed his system without any strikers, playing Joe Aribo with Scott Wright and Ryan Kent on either side.

Wright earned the right to start after shining at Motherwell in the 3-1 win last weekend at Fir Park.

But, he was way out of his depth last night in the Europa League and nothing quite worked throughout.

The Scotsman was eventually dragged off for Fashion Sakala in the second half, and the Zambian didn’t do much better.

Wright had a 53% pass success rate and that was the worst on the entire pitch as he consistently gave away possession [WhoScored].

No point.

With the likes of Scott Arfield, Steven Davis and Fashion Sakala all on the bench last night, they have more chance of starting.

Playing Aribo through the middle against Celtic could easily work, with Arfield and Kent either side after they all shined in the Scottish Cup win a couple of weeks ago.

Sakala would then likely be next in line, and Wright will rue missing his chance to make a name for himself at Parkhead.

Having a midfield three from Davis, Glen Kamara, Ryan Jack and John Lundstram leaves the likes of Aribo and Arfield to go forward.

The speed of Sakala off the bench did the trick in our last Celtic meeting, and he could be raring to go after not starting in Germany.

As for Wright, he could stay at home.
