National newspaper Rangers player rating v Leipzig: Ryan Jack Terrific
Rangers produced a gritty performance in Germany as they lost 1-0 against RB Leipzig in the Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday.
The Scottish Daily Mail (29 April, page 87) has delivered the player ratings for both the teams and the Gers fans would largely agree with it.
Most of the players have got 7 out of 10, while Ryan Jack and Calvin Bassey got 7.5 each.
The newspaper hailed Jack as “terrific” for his performance. However, Scott Wright has really disappointed and he has got 5 out of 10.
The Scottish Daily Mail is absolutely spot on with their ratings here.
Alan McGregor made one flying save in the second half but apart from that, he wasn’t tested. Likewise, James Tavernier was solid at the back, making some brilliant interceptions.
Conor Goldson, Borna Barisic and Calvin Bassey also did well, with the latter especially impressing with some brilliant recovery tackles. The same can be said about Goldson as well who was solid throughout and was always willing to throw his body on the line.
The Gers lacked firepower and quality in the middle and forward departments. Glen Kamara once again lacked pace and movement and at times was really frustrating. Ryan Jack was simply terrific while Joe Aribo made a big difference when he was played upfront.
The experiment to start both Ryan Kent and Scott Wright upfront failed horribly, with the latter failing to make any sort of impact on the game.
In other Rangers news, Gordon Dalziel says this star has been underwhelming so far this season.
