Kris Boyd critical of Rangers substitution by Giovanni van Bronckhorst against RB Leipzig
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd didn’t agree with a tactical switch Giovanni van Bronckhorst made during the Bears’ narrow defeat to RB Leipzig.
Angelino netted a crisp volley late on to give the German outfit a slender advantage heading into the second leg of the Europa League semi-final at Ibrox next week, and Sky Sports pundit Boyd says the introduction of Fashion Sakala killed any momentum the visitors had built up.
The Zambian international came on with 20 minutes to go and it was from his headed clearance that Angelino cracked in the late winner.
“They are going to have to play like they did in the second half. They were a lot more adventurous,” he said, quoted by FootballScotland (29 April).
“When the ball got forward to Joe Aribo, he was able to hold it in and get runners off him.
“And then for whatever reason van Bronckhorst changed it. Aribo went out wide, they brought on Sakala and it didn’t quite work.

“I know Sakala is down as a forward but for me I think he’s better coming off the wings.”
Game On
It was disappointing to concede so late after they’d battled so hard but this will ultimately be seen as a decent scoreline for Rangers to take back to Ibrox.
You can guarantee the ground will be bouncing for the return leg of this tie and van Bronckhorst’s men will look to harness that energy from the crowd as they did so effectively in the previous round against Braga.
A tactical reshuffle was always going to be likely after Kemar Roofe was ruled out and in the circumstances, Rangers did admirably to claim a result they can work with from what was always going to be a massive test of their credentials.
They rushed into an early lead against Braga after two minutes which set the tone for the night and if they can repeat the feat in a week’s time, who knows where it might take them.
In other Rangers news, Gordon Dalziel says this star has been underwhelming so far this season.
