Chris Sutton: Rangers are formidable at Ibrox in Europa League, can still beat RB Leipzig
Chris Sutton has insisted that Rangers are “formidable” at Ibrox ahead of the return leg against RB Leipzig next week.
The Bears are currently 1-0 down after the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals this week in Germany.
Sutton admitted that anything can happen in Glasgow, especially if Rangers go for the jugular from whistle one.
Speaking live on BT Sports Scottish Football Extra this evening, Sutton was impressed with what he’s seen at Ibrox.
“Rangers at Ibrox have been formidable,” he said.
“They’ll feel the crowd behind them, I heard Giovanni van Bronckhorst say they will give the team energy, and nothing to lose now, I think most people will think Leipzig will counter and cause Rangers problems, but if Rangers go for the jugular, you never know.”
Sutton knows that Ibrox has been where it all happens in Europe this season.
Well, that is apart from that other famous night in Germany this season where we brushed aside Borussia Dortmund with ease.
Red Star and Braga have both crumbled in these huge knockout rounds when running out at Ibrox, and Leipzig could easily do the same.
The home atmosphere was slightly embarrassing to say it was a major European semi-final, and Rangers will show how to do it next week.
An early goal and the stadium would explode and Leipzig could easily buckle under that pressure, no matter how many big names they have.
When even those such as Sutton can only sit back and admire, you know that it is one of the best around.
The players still have to do their jobs though, and let’s hope we can all play a huge role in making that happen next week.
