USA coach Gregg Berhalter to attend Europa League clash between Leipzig and Rangers

USA head coach Gregg Berhalter is set to attend Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first-leg between Rangers and RB Leipzig, according to ESPN broadcaster Derek Rae.

Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers and Gers loanee James Sands are potential options for Berhalter in this year’s Qatar World Cup, along with Leipzig’s Tyler Adams.

It has been reported by ESPN’s Rae that Berhalter will be present at the Red Bull Arena on Thursday evening to cast an eye over Sands.

As per Rae, USA assistant manager Anthony Hudson will also be in Glasgow on Sunday for Celtic versus Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and is set for a meeting with James and Carter-Vickers.

Scotland clash

With the 2022 World Cup months away and each team learning their opponents for the group stage, it seems ideal for Berhalter and Hudson to view the many Scotland-based players on show.

Scotland still have to qualify for Qatar 2022, but if they do, they will face the United States, along with England and Iran in the group stages.

Rangers and Celtic both have players featuring regularly in the Scotland squad, with Ryan Jack, Callum Mcgregor and Greg Taylor all featuring in the last squad.

It potentially isn’t a coincidence that Hudson has chosen the Old Firm derby to meet with Carter-vickers and Sands.

Given the array of potential Scottish talent at Celtic and Rangers, it seems likely the USA assistant will be casting a keen eye over proceedings at Celtic Park on Sunday.

After missing out on their first World Cup for three decades in 2018, this USA side want to be taken seriously in Qatar.
