Rangers should make the most of 'daunting' Ibrox in Europa League semi-final - Sky Sports pundit

Former Rangers midfielder Trevor Steven believes a “daunting” Ibrox could be the difference in the Gers’ Europa League semi-final clash with Leipzig.

Rangers face the German side on Thursday evening before the return leg in Glasgow next week.

Steven believes being in the tie for the return leg is a necessity.

Steven told Sky Sports News [28 April, 08:30am]: “Ibrox is a daunting place.

“It’s a huge, huge advantage having the second leg at home.”

He added: “If they can bring a draw or small deficit back to Ibrox then they have every chance of progressing to the final.”

Rangers head into the fixture lacking options upfront with Kemar Roofe now a doubt for the first leg.

With Alfredo Morelos out for the season Steven does feel the Gers are lacking up front: “They’re a bit blunt going forward at the moment.

“But they’re strong defensively, so they have a chance.”

Gers underestimated?

Rangers are potentially being underestimated in this first leg in Germany.

Obviously, their home form has gained plenty of plaudits and has been the catalyst to their fine run in Europe.

However, to completely discount the chances of this side picking up a result in Germany seems slightly foolish.

They have previous in Germany this season with an iconic 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, a game in which they were 3-0 up at half-time.

They are also facing a Leipzig side who sit nine points and two places below Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

It does seem a tad unfair to suggest Rangers are purely reliant on their Ibrox form to bail them out of trouble.

A point or narrow loss this evening would be a good result but this Rangers team certainly has the ability to pick up a famous victory.
