Rangers focusing on themselves ahead of Europa League semi-final says van Bronckhorst

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has dismissed any whispers of tiredness in either camp ahead of Rangers’ Europa League semi-final against RB Leipzig.

The Dutchman has masterminded the Gers’ progression to a first appearance at this stage of a European competition since 2008 and now faces another steep hurdle in the form of the Red Bull funded German outfit.

Murmurs have been coming from both camps of weary legs after a hectic schedule but van Bronckhorst insists it hasn’t impacted preparations and his squad’s mindset is to prepare as thoroughly as they can on their side.

“We just concentrate on our own game,” he said, as quoted by The Guardian (27 April).

“We have also played many games in the last weeks so I think for everyone still involved in Europe, in all the competitions, it’s quite demanding on the squad mentally and physically.

“We have to make sure we are doing well ourselves and prepare the way we want to play against Leipzig.

“For me that’s more important than what other players or teams feel.”

Massive Moment

Thursday night represents a huge landmark in the history of Rangers and the gravitas of the situation should help to shake off any fatigue in the legs of the players.

It’s crucial van Bronckhorst’s men come away from Germany with a result they can bring back to Ibrox with a chance of still progressing, as they did so effectively in the last round when overturning a one-goal deficit against Braga.

Who starts up front will be a key decision for the Dutchman to make with Kemar Roofe still rushing to return to fitness, so Fashion Sakala may be given the big responsibility of leading the line.

As Rangers’ boss rightly says, preparing the team in the right manner to pick up a positive result is the key to this clash and decisions such as the striker conundrum are ones he has to get right if the Gers’ are to book their place for the final in Seville.

In other Rangers news, this Leipzig star sent the club a message ahead of the semi-final tie.
