Rangers early team news v RB Leipzig: No new set backs, manager hints at attacking set up
Rangers have no new injury worries ahead of the Europa League semi-final first leg against RB Leipzig in Germany tomorrow (28 April).
With Alfredo Morelos ruled out for the rest of the season already and Kemar Roofe then picking up a knee problem in the cup semi-final against Celtic that is a major relief ahead of a key game.
Fashion Sakala was preferred up front for the win against Motherwell at the weekend, and Giovanni van Bronckhorst has hinted that he will again fill the gap tomorrow.
In his pre-match press conference, via the club’s official Twitter account, the manager said: “We have no fresh injuries, we have the squad available from Motherwell.
“Morelos and Roofe are not available and I have made my plans after watching the opponent playing.
“I will choose the right gameplan and we need the players for perform well.
“Fashion Jr is travelling. We have a big plane.”
Considering the recent luck with injury this counts as a major boost ahead of the showdown in Leipzig.
Aaron Ramsey is also missing currently, so the remaining players are going to have to be on top form to bring the Germans back to Ibrox with the tie still to fight for when the Welshman and Roofe may be available.
Zambian Sakala surely did enough at the weekend to secure the nod for the central attacking spot again.
His incisive running led to both the second-half goals after the team had been pegged back and gone down to 10 men.
His assist for Scott Wright was followed by winning the penalty that James Tavernier scored, to go with his heavy involvement in the winner against Celtic in the previous game.
With Cedric Itten the other recognised striker in the squad, but not having shown signs of being capable to match the output of any of the three men in front of him, it seems highly unlikely that he comes in.
