Kris Boyd moots role change for Rangers ace Joe Aribo v RB Leipzig

Kris Boyd admits that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has plenty of permutations to work out before the Rangers v RB Leipzig clash.

He believes that they could go with a number nine and Joe Aribo could be playing in that role.

Fashion Sakala hasn’t been great of late and he possibly will not be asked to deputise for Alfredo Morelos.

“Do Rangers play with the false nine? Fashion Sakala’s performance in Braga came in for a lot of criticism,” he told Sky Sports.

“Sakala, from a wide area, can cause problems. When you look at Rangers so far this season, Ryan Kent has come in between the midfield and strikers as that false nine as such, off of Roofe or Morelos.

“Then you look to bringing in a Steven Davis in the middle of the pitch, so do you play Aribo as the false nine? There’s many permutations that Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have to work out which is the best one over the next couple of days.”

Could work

The lack of a focal point is damning for any club, let alone Rangers.

There’s nobody else who can offer this team what Morelos does.

What van Bronckhorst can do is alter his system in a way that his role becomes redundant.

Some of the Gers attackers are extremely mobile and can play that role with ease.

The likes of Ryan Kent, Kemar Roofe, Amad Diallo and even Sakala could look to exploit the spaces left in behind should Aribo drop deep.

This could Leipzig some nightmares and may send their game plan down the drain.

This is undoubtedly the biggest test for van Bronckhorst since taking over from Steven Gerrard and it remains to be seen whether he comes out with flying colours.

In other Rangers news, the club are ‘not convinced’ by a key first-team player and an early termination of his contract is extremely likely.
