Van Bronckhorst must sell Rangers striker Cedric Itten in the summer

Giovanni van Bronckhorst must sell some of the existing Rangers players to make room for new additions.

He will be looking to stamp his own authority and shipping the fringe players out are equally important.

Bolstering the forward line should be a major concern especially if Alfredo Morelos leaves the club. At the same time, the club must sell Cedric Itten.

The Switzerland international joined the Gers in 2020 and has made over 40 appearances for the club. In his first season, he managed six goals in 37 appearances in all competitions.

He was sent on to loan to Bundesliga club Greuther Furth but was recalled in January in what was seen as a decent decision from the Dutchman.

However, he is not playing anymore. He is not even in the squad, especially at a time when Rangers are without both Morelos and Kemar Roofe.

It seems the only reason he is to make up the numbers and that the Dutchman will only use him in an extreme emergency when there’s no other option left.

The Swiss forward still has two years remaining on his Ibrox contract but surely he is way down the pecking order and it will be a massive shock if he stays put.

Ally McCoist was also stunned to see that he wasn’t given a chance against Motherwell.

“Interesting, I heard the boys talking before the game,” McCoist said during commentary for Sky Sports.

“Obviously no Roofe, no Morelos, however, would it not have been an opportunity for Cedric Itten? Or is he so far down the pecking order?”

The fact that Van Bronckhorst is pinning hopes on Fashion Sakala, a winger, instead of him during the injury crisis speaks volumes of his worth to the side.

And if Joe Aribo is being picked as a false nine against RB Leipzig that will be the end of his Ibrox career, if not already.

In other Rangers news, former players were accused of “ignorance” over their views on Leon Balogun’s sending off by a former Premier League referee.
