Ally McCoist shares Rangers concern ahead of RB Leipzig semi-final clash

Ally McCoist has insisted that he would rather Rangers be facing Eintracht Frankfurt instead of RB Leipzig in the Europa League.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side faces the Bundesliga outfit away at the Red Bull Arena on Thursday [April 28] in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

With West Ham facing Frankfurt in the other sem-final clash, McCoist claimed he would rather be facing the other German side left in the competition.

Speaking on talkSPORT via Daily Record, he said: “I’d rather be playing Frankfurt than RB Leipzig.

“I just think Leipzig is a tougher game.

“I so want West Ham to beat Frankfurt, I really do.”

No easy route.

Leipzig might be the better team but the Light Blues have already proven themselves to be giant killers this season.

They have caused a shock in every single round after making it out of the group with their clash against Borussia Dortmund potentially the biggest upset in the whole competition.

If they beat the team who currently sits second in the Bundesliga then they can surely deal with Leipzig who are fourth.

It seems that Rangers are better off as underdogs seeing as they struggled the most against Braga despite being tipped as favourites in that tie.

It will be very difficult without Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe – in the first leg – but van Bronckhorst’s side has defied the odds all season and with only three games standing between them, the trophy and Champions League football next season, hopefully, they can continue to do so.

With the Gers seemingly missing out on the league title this year, it is imperative the enjoy success in both of the cups. The Europa League would be brilliant to win but the Scottish Cup is an absolute must.

In other Rangers news, a BBC pundit has raved over Steven Davis’ “fantastic” performance against Motherwell.
