BBC pundit raves over 'fantastic' Steven Davis performance v Motherwell
Neil McCann was left gushing over Rangers ace Steven Davis after his “fantastic” performance against Motherwell this afternoon [April 23].
The Gers ran away 3-1 winners at Fir Park thanks to an own goal by Liam Kelly and goals from Scott Wright and James Tavernier.
Leon Balogun’s first-half sending off left Giovanni van Bronckhorst concerned but Davis’ experience in the middle of the park helped the Light Blues deal with the pressure.
McCann said on BBC’s live coverage of the game: “What a player Steven Davis is. He orchestrates the tempo of the game. He’s just a fantastic player.”
What a game that was from Rangers. Even with a much-changed side, they looked miles better than Motherwell which puts them in very good sted for the rest of their league campaign because van Bronckhorst will have to call upon his whole squad in what will be a very tough sprint to the end of the season.
The league games will most likely be more of the same in terms of the Dutchman’s selection with both cup competitions being the priority.
Davis and the rest of the second string players proved today they have what it takes to hold down the though whilst the starters have a vital rest.
Balogun almost let the side down with his badly mistimed tackle but the Light Blues did excellently in playing with ten men. Motherwell were awful today which is why they are down at the bottom of the table.
With that being said the players that deputised today were second to none. Scott Wright did himself proud on the wing and Fashion Sakala looked very lively up front despite not scoring.
That is vital with the 25-year-old very likely to start against RB Leipzig on Thursday with Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe both injured.
In other Rangers news, van Bronckhorst has called for Sakala to step up amid the Gers’ injury crisis.
