Giovanni van Bronckhorst calls for Rangers ace Fashion Sakala to step up

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has called for Rangers forward Fashion Sakala to step up ahead of the Motherwell clash on Saturday [April 23].

The Light Blues boss put the onus on the 25-year-old with Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe absent through injury.

With the Europa League semi-final clash against RB Leipzig also on the horizon, the Dutchman was thankful for the size of his squad.

He said in the pre-Motherwell press conference, via Daily Record: “He [Sakala] played well in that position in the last couple of games.

“We have limited options upfront but other players have to stand up and be given more time to play but that’s why you have a big squad – for moments like this. When players are not available others have to show their quality.”

Rangers dealt excellently with the absence of their star man Morelos in their wins over Braga and Celtic last week.

Roofe came in and did an excellent job and in typical Gers fashion, he then fell injured.

Now to add insult to injury, van Bronckhorst’s side has to play their biggest game of the season so far with their third choice striker.

Not to mention the injury to Aaron Ramsey who just looked to be hitting his stride for the Bears.

It is such a shame because, with their best team, the Gers have a very good chance of beating the Bundesliga side on Thursday [April 28].

They have already proven they know how to beat better German opposition with their shock win against Borussia Dortmund but given the state of their squad, this might be a step too far.

Let’s hope that Sakala can build some confidence against Motherwell to help him midweek. They will need him sharp.

In other Rangers news, Braga’s Twitter admin has gushed over James Tavernier after his crucial role in knocking them out of the Europa League.
