Braga Twitter admin gushes over Rangers ace James Tavernier

Braga’s Twitter admin has shared their admiration for Rangers captain James Tavernier after he played a key role in knocking them out of the Europa League.

The Light Blues squeezed past the Primeira Liga outfit 3-2 on aggregate to advance to the next round of the competition.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side now looks forward to semi-final clash against Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

With the right-back scoring two goals in the Gers’ second-leg comeback, their social media team paid homage to the 30-year-old.

They tweeted: “Btw… What. A. Player.”

Captain fantastic

Tavernier was instrumental against Braga as he has been throughout his Bears career. It wasn’t only his goals that set him aside from the rest, his performance was excellent.

He put in a real captain’s performance when van Bronckhorst needed him the most.

Without him, they probably wouldn’t be in the semi-final now which emphasises his importance this season.

His 30 goal involvements this season are simply incredible for a defender. Even with him on penalty duties, those statistics are insane.

The Bears certainly wouldn’t be in the position they currently find themselves in now with a double on the cards without Tavernier.

Hopefully, he can lead Rangers to two trophies at the end of the season and a couple more next campaign before the end of his contract in 2024.

A win against Hearts in the Scottish Cup final and just three more wins in the Europa League would more than make up for missing out on the title against Celtic.

That would be a fitting end to his long and impressive Ibrox career. That is if he doesn’t stay beyond his contract.

But with him currently aged 30, an extension in a couple of years is very unlikely – or at least it should be.
