BBC pundit raves about Rangers forward Fashion Sakala v Motherwell

Neil McCann has showered praise on Rangers forward Fashion Sakala after he earned a penalty against Motherwell.

After a poor first half, that ended 1-1, the Gers took their game to a new height, scoring two quick goals to turn the game in their favour.

Sakala earned a penalty for his side from which James Tavernier scored in what proved to be a game-changing moment for the Gers.

“It’s a brilliant run from Fashion Sakala. When he drives into the box, I think there was a bump, but then he had a bit of clear air and Bevis Mugabi makes the challenge,” said McCann as relayed by the BBC Sport Website.

“I thought he won the ball then had another little go at it. Nick Walsh feels it’s a penalty.”

McCann was overall impressed with Sakala, and described his first touch as “sublime”. He added: “Fashion Sakala’s touch is sublime. It shows you how effective going direct can be.”

It was a superb performance from Sakala and Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be very pleased with what he saw.

Prior to the game, he challenged Sakala to prove his mettle and the Zambian forward has made a huge impact in the game.

His touches were brilliant and he was a constant threat with his direct style of play.

McCann is absolutely spot on here. In a game like this, when Rangers were down to ten men, you need players who can carry the ball forward and trouble the opposition defenders.

Sakala was poor in the game against Braga in the Europa League where he was ineffective against a well-drilled defensive unit.

In this case, Motherwell had no answer after Rangers shifted their gears, and the game became wide open. Sakala thrives in these types of games, and he has played a huge role in earning his side all three points.

In other Rangers news, One 25-year-old could now be deemed as surplus to requirements at Ibrox this season.
