Rangers following Brazilian Antony ahead of potential summer swoop

Rangers are scouting winger Antony ahead of possibly moving for the 23-year-old Arouca ace in the upcoming transfer window.

That’s according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, who states that Swiss outfit Basel are also in the running for the forward’s signature.

Antony started his senior career with Joinville and Corinthians in his native Brazil before making the move to Europe this season, making 17 Liga Portugal appearances, of which four are starts, for Arouca and scoring twice.

A Bola claims the Light Blues have done their homework on Antony with his performances in Portugal “already beginning to seduce” those interested in him.

Exciting Option

Whenever a Brazilian winger is linked with any club it always generates excitement as our brains deviate to their images of street football in Rio de Janeiro, with players seemingly having the ball glued to their foot as they charge forward.

A lot remains to be seen whether Antony can provide that raw spark for the Gers’ but it is encouraging to see them already considering options out wide given the situation with those in the current squad.

Ryan Kent’s future is continuously speculated, with the Englishman seemingly linked away every summer, and Aaron Ramsey out of position and only on loan.

If the Welshman doesn’t return from Juventus then Rangers will almost certainly sign a wide player in the summer to help bolster the ranks of a thin squad.

These early reports suggest Antony could be the man Giovanni van Bronckhorst decides to pursue.

In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist has had this superb exchange with an unlikely figure.
