Kris Boyd fumes at Celtic reaction to Rangers win in Scottish Cup semi-final
Kris Boyd has reacted with fury at the reaction towards Bobby Madden following the Scottish Cup semi-final between Rangers and Celtic.
The referee has been blasted in the media by pundits and ex-pros for a series of poor decisions, taking the gloss off Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side’s comeback.
But Boyd, writing in his Scottish Sun column, says the reaction is a nonsense and that Rangers won because they were the better side not because of a poor refereeing performance.
“Bobby Madden had a better game than Tom Rogic,” he said. “He made fewer mistakes than Liel Abada.
“In the big moments, he coped far more than Cameron Carter-Vickers. And by time-up he’d put in as much effort as Daizen Maeda.
“So please, do me a favour and spare me this nonsense that it’s the referee’s fault Celtic lost to Rangers at Hampden.
“Rangers won because they were the better team.”
It’s been two days since the big win over Celtic and yet we’re hearing more about the fact Madden wasn’t very good than the fact Rangers are in the final.
For 105 of the 120 minutes the blues were the better side on the day and were fully deserving of their victory, and deserve credit for coming from behind and winning despite playing 120 minutes just 72 hours prior too.
There were plenty of decisions that didn’t go the way of the Bears too but because they won they aren’t being mentioned, which is exactly the sort of rubbish Boyd is talking about.
Celtic weren’t good enough and Rangers gave it everything. There is nothing more to it, the victory was well deserved.
Hopefully everyone can move one from the poor performance of the officials, just like they have whenever Rangers have been cost points in the title race because of bad decisions. It’s only fair.
