Michael Stewart goes berserk on live TV, rages at 'ridiculous' Bobby Madden in Rangers v Celtic

Michael Stewart was absolutely furious with Bobby Madden’s refereeing performance as Rangers won 2-1 after extra-time against Celtic at Hampden Park on Sunday.

Madden brandished four yellow cards to Rangers players throughout the 120 minutes of action and could have dished out on or two reds too.

However, the failure to decide on a couple of second-yellow incidents angered Stewart, who raged over Madden’s display at the end of normal time in the Scottish Cup semi-final showdown.

“It’s a fascinating game, right on the edge, difficult to predict,” said Stewart on Premier Sports on Sunday after normal time finished [17 April, 03:55pm].

“It’s been wonderful to watch.

“I’ve got to say, though, Bobby Madden has had an absolute shocker. Seriously, some of the decisions he’s been giving there are ridiculous.”

Dodgy refereeing?

No matter who’s in charge and no matter which teams are playing, Scottish referees are going to get criticised.

Why? Because they’re terrible.

There was a spell in the second half where Madden lost control of the game and could have given a red card or two.

It was mainly Rangers players too, unfortunately. For example, John Lundstram avoided a yellow card when he purposely blocked a drop-kick by Joe Hart. That’s as obvious a booking as you can get.

But, the Gers knew that Madden was letting things slide so they made the most of that and it did rile Celtic and their fans up.

It’ll be interesting to see how VAR will be used in Scottish football once it arrives next season.

At the end of the day, the technology will still be ran by the current dodgy crop of refs so we fail to see how there’ll be much of an improvement.
